Information on rubber smallholdings is undeniably vital for the Malaysian rubber industry because the rubber area is decreasing every year. The rapid development of properties such as high-rise buildings and the plantation activities of other commodities are believed to be the major factors driving rubber land area deterioration. This study was conducted to determine the viability of spectral analysis to detect rubber smallholdings using satellite imagery. The Landsat 8 OLI and the following methods were applied in this study: the False Colour Method, Unsupervised Classification, Supervised Classification and twenty-seven Spectral Vegetation Indices (SVIs). Land use data from the Department of Agriculture and available internal data were used for validation. The Supervised Classification Method and EVI gave promising results for identifying rubber smallholdings with accuracies of 82% and 83%, respectively.
